Competing in a Local, Virtual Environment

It’s funny how competition can be both virtual and local at the same time. Augusta Chronicle posted two job openings today in the Online section of JournalismJobs.com. A quick googley-goog reveals that they’re about two hours away from Atlanta, and owned by Morris. In this context … hmm. That’s interesting. They’re gearing up for an online staff, hiring a content “producer” like myself … and a programmer, like I’d like to hire. Virtual resources, all — but golly, when they’re hiring from the same regional pool as me, with properties all over the areas that my properties are in …, well, golly that seems mighty close to me. All of a sudden — and just for a glimmer — my Grokkered-out conception of the future flattened, and I saw the world the way that the print guys do. Bleh….
