Daily Show Features Clinton
“If you’re a Democrat, you win when people think,” said Bill Clinton to Jon Stewart on today’s Daily Show. chooses the highly-popular-among-youth-as-a-source-of-news (News You Can Use, 1-13-04) Daily Show over the-dead SNL; surely a calculated, politicized move. So what does he choose to say? An expected discussion of Dems vs. Reps, with Stewart dominating and asking leading questions. But Clinton did get in a few words edgewise; most interestingly a critique of the media. Post-Watergate, he commented, the media felt compelled to break a scandal about every candidate in each election cycle. Post 9-11, the tendency was not to critique leaders at all. Now, he said, the media is striking somewhat of a balance. In this new information economy, he continued, the election is of utmost importance: “Any time you go through a period of big change, it really matters who gets elected.”
