Portuguese TV Freak Show

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that I’m in another country. Easy, that is, until I turned on the TV last week to see a man in blackface eating his hand.
I had stumbled onto a PORTUGUESE FREAK SHOW on TV!
[Update: A reader has informed me that this channel is Brazilian. I watched it in Portugal, but who knows where they found these people!]

Mr. Blackface did a little turn on the dancefloor, on the dancefloor yeah, on the dancefloor, and then grinned, pleased with himself.
Super!
Next up was a dude with silver body paint who was a mean belly dancer.
Think the paint goes all the way down?
A pretty girl dressed normally entered the fray …
You know if you see someone who looks normal on one of those things, then they’ll turn out to have super hidden freak talents …
… like being able to stick their tongue behind their tonsils! (Giggity.)
This awesome dude was doublejointed, which he amply demonstrated in a prolonged and uncomfortable display of freakdom.
(I get that you can be born quadruple jointed - but where do you get the idea that you have to put on a unitard and silver slippers on national TV?)
This girl’s talent was burping, which was quite disappointing, since she wasn’t even half as good as me. (That’s right. I said it. Wanna fight about it?)
Perhaps my favorite was a dude I nicknamed the Hulk. The Hulk - painted green, in cutoff shorts, proceeded to break bottles on stage, and then did a headstand on top of the broken glass. Apparently, other peeps got on top of him, forming a human inverted pyramid, but I had walked away at this point.
Again, all while painted GREEN.

Which reminds me - if you haven’t read Geek Love - a twisted and fascinating story about a circus freak family that delibrately produces more freak children by imbibing tons of drugs during pregnancy - well, heck - buy it now!

nice freaks. pity that i don’t know any of them. oh, by the way, this channel is brazilian. portuguese nuttys aren’t so down there as these ones…..
