Head in the Sand
Perhaps the only person in the country who isn’t marginally aware of the Democratic primary is George W. To quote the NYTimes:
“All the carping of the candidates about President Bush’s foreign policy is being tuned out by one seasoned political player: President Bush. He doesn’t listen to a word of it. Honest.
How do we know? He said so himself, aboard Air Force One the other night, traveling from Bali to Australia. ‘You know, I’m not paying that much attention to it,’ he said, relaxing in one of those blue Air Force One flight jackets that the nine Democrats have visions of wearing one day. ‘Maybe you are, I’m not. You know, one of these days, they’ll have a candidate and then it will all sort out.’
Pressed on whether the criticism of his foreign policy undercuts him with other leaders, he waved the whole idea away. ‘Nobody has ever said, `Your foreign policy is being challenged in Democrat primaries, and therefore you’re less credible.’ I mean, it really hasn’t come up.’
