New Blog Category: Vacuum Food Sealing!

Foodsaver!

It gives me great pleasure to announce the birth of a new blog category: Vacuum Food Sealing!

Readers who know my obession with cooking and technology, my semi-frequent traveling, and who are familiar with my general scatterbrained-professor approach to housekeeping will understand why I was so entranced with the possibilities of this informercial appliance.

It seems so promising ….

  • Buying fresh produce, cheese and meats from the (kinda) far-away Farmer’s Market, and being able to enjoy them instead of throwing them away all moldy …

  • Always having the ingredients for tacos on hand …

  • Being able to stockpile ingredients so that I would no longer come home from work to an empty fridge and bare pantry …

  • Not having to eat like six servings of something in a row …

Oh, yes. Vacuum food sealing is downright SEXY to a girl like me.

Big ups to mom for getting me one for Christmas!

So begins the experiments, gentle readers. I hope to never again see a scene like this …

Junk from my fridge

Items thrown away from my fridge January 10, 2006

  • Eggs that expired October 14, 2005

  • Turkey soup I made for Thanksgiving

  • Some cheese I bought in May that strangely isn’t moldy or smelly, but is still scary

  • Tomato paste from when I made beef stew October 30 (Read the recipe, it was really good!)

  • Sprouts, onion and apple from my famous turkey sandwich

  • Some moldy leftover squash

ewwww ……

The stew recipe inspired me to make a pot of my own… No celery, extra onions.Mmmmmmm I wonder where that tuperware container went????
