Perfect Baguettes, My Kitchen

WASHINGTON, DC, May 7, 2007

It is official. I - ever the perfectionist - can say that I have mastered the baguette. It only took me - oh - four years. Here tis, sliced for lunch with fontina, swiss, pancetta, granny smith apples (yes, I am obsessed with them), and strawberries.

Check that luscious crust!

Very nice. I don’t think you ever met my friend who wished to create a fetish site featuring women smacking each other playfully with baguettes. He would approve of this.

oh, and is that irish butter in the second to last picture?

    Hi Ms Fries,

I have been enjoying your blog very much so I hope you will not object to a tentative criticism on the baguette photography. If you don’t mind me saying so, it is a little on the gratuitous side. Some prudish types might even describe it as obscene.

Gratuitous because there are too many baguettes? Or because I’m showcasing them in a sexy fashion?

I have been baking a lot recently - after all these years of making good bread, I finally started making bread that I think is awesome - so I’ve been doing it a bit more.
