Recipe for a Hot Shower

WASHINGTON, DC, April 18, 2007

When the hot water heater in the basement’s pilot light goes out due to a flood, and the days start to creep by and the blogger’s still wearing the same outfit, what’s a girl to do?

Why, invent a recipe for a homemade hot shower!

1. Heat Soup Pot Of Water

At full heat, 30 minutes.

2. Transfer Pot To Tub

This involves some awkward duckwalking.

3. Using Bowl, Mix Hot Water With Icy

For each third of the pot, mix with the appropriate proportion of icy water, as the hot water cools:
1st - 2/3 icy
2nd - 1/2 icy
3rd - no icy

4. Pour Bowl Over Self

5. Enjoy Fleeting Sense of Warmth and Cleanliness While Gazing at Frightful Opaque Water And Vowing Not to Drink Tap Water Ever Again

How long till someone forgets to mix in cold water?

  2. bert:

Days?! What the heck, is the basement still flooded? If not, all you need is a lighter and a healthy lack of fear of bringing that flame near a highly-combustible source, and you’re good to go again.

  3. Josh Dingus:

I had to do that when the hot water went out at my old place in the middle of winter. But I soon got lazy, gave up, and decided to just take ice cold showers. Worst two weeks of my life.

  4. little sister:

who took that picture, eh? looks like yr making friends after all.
We didn’t have hotwater in the dorms for the two months immediately following winter vacation. When we complained, we were told we could go down to the SRC [gym] to take showers.

We also didn’t have heat for awhile, but since we didn’t pay for electricity, we would run my roommate’s blow dryer. not the most effective thing. Running to the dorms after a ice cold shower was very unsatisfactory.

Well, the heat has finally been restored - or rather, the landlord went and lit the pilot light. Now, I’m no sissy, esp. not about house stuff - but when you combine creepy, dark, flooded basement that I’m constantly convinced I will be trapped and mutilated in with a fiery explosion of propane … yeah, I’ll take my chances with the soup pot.

And yes, Andrea - I’m making friends - or, at least, my roommate is willing to humor me in my blogging endeavors. I couldn’t find anyone else willing to help me take nekkid pics. Hey-oh!

you know not being able to take a shower doesnt change the fact that you could still switch outfits.

  7. little sister:

ahh yes, but switching outfits without showering reduces the number of times you can rewear them before doing laundry
