Tuna Time!
LISBOA, Portugal, January 18, 2007
I was thrilled the other day to discover that Portugal is home of the world’s coolest tunafish tins. Each is a marvel of design - harkening back to some distant era, where lone designers sailed the seas of unconventionality, fishing for a look that would set their can ahead of the school.
I found out yesterday that there is an entire like, PLACE full of awesomely designed seafood tins here in Lisboa (Lisbon). In anticipation of that trip - and the nerdilicious blog post that must follow - I present these radical tuna tins, found in Lagos, Portugal.
This tuna tin is simple - the bold “COMBATE” encased in red shows the tuna in its last, soaring leap of defiance, before it is split into the two halves of meat which flank it.
This is by far the coolest tuna tin known to mankind. Check it - the dude has chops! Giant, bushy, Confederate soldier chops! He also has short hair, which makes me think that he is not a Civil War veteran, but perhaps a cutting-edge hipster, who eschewed the irony mullet, mustache “movember” and the resurgence of the rat tail in favor of the newest trend. AND - the word “chop” is a derogatory word for a Portuguese person, [see wiki], so this man might even be “queering” the word and re-staking it as his own!
