A Elegância na Praia
It’s true that I haven’t updated in a long, long time.
It’s been a long, long month - dive bar Jello shots in Portland, fried bologna sandwiches at Daytona 400 in Florida, draft beers in Vegas, quesadillas in Phoenix, bagels in DC.
It’s been a rough month; too much coffee, white bread, sugar; not enough sleep; too much 2.0, a million essays lost to the fatigue of adulthood.
It’s been a wonderful month of work; launching convention blogs, leading sessions, coaching writers, editing résumés and cover letters nonstop; networking, and talking so much, so much journalism.
I’ve found myself with a million things to say and no strength to say them; stuck, indecisive, finally back in my erstwhile home, under the blankets while the window-propped A.C. roars, insistent upon 63.
I think perhaps today has come; perhaps today I am ready to be updated.

Ouch. It was the Pepsi 400 at Daytona, Laura! And you call yourself a NASCAR fan.
What’s that? You don’t?!

Well, I KNOW it was the Pepsi 400. But my audience isn’t likely to know that. And saying the Pepsi 400 in Daytona, Florida would have ruined the structure … cuz I didn’t say city, state for the other’n.
I ain’t likely to forget the actual source of a fried bologna sandwich.
(Sides, I lived in Atlanta … us Southern girls don’t cotton to Coke)

Sister Andrea, via email, asks: “so when were you in vegas?” … in clear defiance of the all-sisterly-communication-takes-place-via-blog edict.
For bout two hours, three weeks ago, on my way back through Portland.

Welcome back, Miss Fries. The absence of your virtual ass has caused me to fall asleep at the wheel on the information superhighway
