Bleeding Orange
Close your eyes…
Just for a second, and try to imagine it: that big booming, echoing space, voices bouncing off the concrete floors. The squawk of the PA, the low beeps of forklifts, and the distinct high pitched burr of a plank-ripping saw.
Close your eyes for a few more moments. Take a big breath inside of that giant orange box: What do you smell?
It’s sawdust.
The sweet just-cut smell of possibilities.
And when you’re a DIY junkie like me, working for the Orange Box is like getting the keys to the candy store.
HOMEDEPOT.com Content
Running An Editorial Team
Straight from a stint of DIY robotics at Georgia Tech, I wrapped my arms around a new gig owning DIY content for HomeDepot.com.
I managed a 5 person editorial team, developing all DIY project content in-house which published on the Home Depot’s Blog.
YES, IT WAS OUR JOB TO MAKE DIY PROJECTS!
As manager, I ran the massive editorial calendar, incorporating content requests from all corners of the enterprise ranging from Marcom support to SEO content gaps. Our team ‘owned’ the Blog, Pinterest, YouTube and additionally provided UX copy for HomeDepot.com.
Social Media Content Marketing
In-House Creative Team
Once the truly powerful revenue results of social media made themselves clear, The Home Depot consolidated functions previously housed in e-commerce, PR and Associate Communications.
In this larger staffing model, my content team expanded production responsibilities to match the much-larger budgets available: starting video production starring our guest bloggers, and commissioning custom creative for product campaigns through our agency partners at 22squared.
Why #THD Rules
A Partial List, Cuz You Ain’t Got All Day.
You Can Partner with anyone on the globe. (Except Lowe’s)
Yes, anyone. Media companies. Social Platforms. Manufacturers of all sizes and stripes. Large Consumer Product Goods corporations. Agencies, creatives, social influencers.
Your Coworkers Will Drop Everything to Help OTHERS
See all of the gorgeous gift wrapped tools in this image? Rather than let these props go to waste, our team organized a massive auction and raised over $13,000 for our internal Associate emergency grant program.
If you’ve ever worked in corporate retail, you’ll know this was particularly generous to do during the busiest time of the year: Black Friday.
EVERYONE YOU WORK WITH IS A SECRET DIY NINJA
For real. You can start a conversation about glue viscosity and dry time with anyone.
You get access to the best data
When you’ve been selling to America for 40 years, you tend to accumulate a lot of information about people.
AND FINALLY … Because THEY GIVE OUT MERIT BADGES.
Awh, it’s corny but it’s sweet!
